INCENTIVES FOR ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY
The Government announced duty free import of machinery in terms of a budget proposal in the year 2005 budget.
Based on this proposal, the Ministry of Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion has formulated a scheme to promote and encourage the utilization of advanced technology through importation of new machinery, equipment and industrial plants by the SMEs.
In the absence of good quality it is well known that less market development can take place. How do we get there? We need assistance programmes, schemes that could take our enterprises and industrial base as a whole that would make the difference in the manufacturing base where products of good quality and higher return in terms of capacity building would take place. Then we become cheaper, we become better and get access to markets and we also could retain the markets. The SMEs largely has suffered without an invent of Advanced Technology within their enterprises. They have thought technology is asking beyond their reach and we have thought it best that we make it within everybody’s reach.
